Divorce, relocation and stress

There are many facets of the divorce process that can be challenging, especially for a parent. From custody disputes to child support orders and other divorce-related matters (property division, etc.), the end of a marriage can be a challenging time for anyone. With all of these issues, it should come as no surprise that many people experience stress during the divorce process and in the weeks and months after a divorce is finalized. Moreover, some people decide to relocate with their child in the wake of a divorce for a number of reasons, which can lead to even more stress and emotional tension.

Relocation is not only stressful for custodial parents who are trying to figure out what their responsibilities are with respect to parental relocation, but non-custodial parents as well, such as those who worry about being unable to spend time with their kids. If you are a parent who is planning on moving, you should do all you can to ensure that you understand your responsibilities. On the other hand, if you are a non-custodial parent and believe that your child's other parent is moving them without respecting your rights, you should not remain silent.

Parents relocate for many reasons, from those which involve their career to looking for a fresh start. Our law office completely understands how difficult this can be for parents on both sides and our parental relocation page has more related to relocating with a child after a marriage has come to an end.
