Finding the courage to relocate with your child

Parental relocation can certainly be challenging and we have written blog entries about various legal matters that may arise from relocation. Often times, parental relocation comes with the benefits of new work opportunities and a fresh start. However, it is also important to note that some people struggle with parental relocation, and we are not just speaking about non-custodial parents who stay behind. For some parents, moving to a new state or even a new city with their child can be incredibly difficult after their divorce, even though such a move may be in their best interests.

A parent may be hesitant to move for various reasons. They may be overwhelmed after a recent divorce that was unexpectedly draining financially and emotionally. They may also be afraid to start a new life in a city they have never been to before, even though they know that such a move is important. If you are in this situation, it is crucial to find the courage you need to successfully move with your child and do what is best for their future and yours as well.

One way that parents may be able to get rid of some of their relocation-related stress is by reviewing relevant legal matters. You should familiarize yourself with parental relocation laws and gain a strong understanding of your responsibilities and your rights. It may also help to plan for your move in other ways, such as making sure that your finances are in order and reviewing the area you will be living in.
