Examining ways that you can make child custody work

On Behalf of | Jul 25, 2019 | Child Custody & Visitation |

Explaining your divorce to your children is often a discussion that you will want to carefully think about before you are asked some of the most difficult questions you have ever been asked. As your children begin to make sense of what is happening in their own minds, you will need to start thinking about their future and their relationships with you and your ex. At Clement Law Center, we have experience in helping families in Washington as they face the process of divorce.

Depending on differences in your children including their ages, their maturity, their relationships with both parents and how well they handle emotional information, you will want to approach the topic of your divorce differently for each child. Spend adequate time listening to each child’s concerns and addressing questions they may have about their future and how this change in their familial dynamic will alter their living situation.

According to Parents, do your best to find a way to communicate with your ex that allows you to cordially negotiate how time will be spent between the two of you. Under no circumstances, should you speak negatively about your ex in front of your children and refrain from allowing convenience or efficiency to dictate your schedule. Realize that a functional arrangement will require flexibility from all of the parties involved.

When you are able to approach the task of developing a custody plan that is beneficial for your children, you may be better able to create an agreement in a timely manner. For more information about the divorce process, visit our web page.
