Divorce can be complicated -- be well-informed

Most Washington spouses would agree that marriage can be difficult. There is no way to predict with 100% certainty which marriages will last a lifetime and which will end in divorce. There is also no way to know whether one will be able to navigate proceedings without any legal obstacles interfering. A comprehensive and amicable settlement is more likely when a spouse is aware of his or her rights ahead of time and also knows where to seek support to help protect financial interests.

If children are involved, it is also critical to know what to do to ensure that the well-being of the children is a central focus of the proceedings. It is important that all decisions are made regarding any children are made with their best interests in mind. Various divorce topics, such as property division, child support or alimony can spark disagreements between parents that cause delays in proceedings or make it more challenging to achieve a settlement.

Many spouses want to leave the past behind and move on in life as swiftly as possible, so they agree to file for uncontested divorce. In other situations, however, there may be extenuating issues that make litigation necessary. For instance, if one parent suspects the other of substance or abuse or some other issue that would cause detriment to the children involved, he or she may wish to request sole custody. In litigation, the goal is to obtain a victory in court, one that is in the client's favor but also protective of the best interests of any children involved.

A Washington parent can increase his or her chances of obtaining a favorable outcome in divorce by relying on support from an experienced family law attorney. The Clement Law Center is committed to advocating on behalf of its clients to help them accomplish their goals regarding custody, financial support and division of assets.
